The LAB concept store

We established a strategy to realise AIB‘s ambitions of better engaging and serving users, creating a space that supports all digital channels, and provides a controlled environment for test and learn. The Lab provides AIB with insights to potential technologies and operational changes that can later be adopted in the wider branch network.

We knew we wanted to create human connections at every touchpoint to balance out the technology push. The aim was to create a true reflection of the brand and its unique appeal in the most human way. We created a visual language and consistent design system applied across digital and physical, and used a human avatar to aid navigation and ease customers through both journeys.

Our approach included design of the digital UX and UI design as well as the media and marketing campaigns to support. Digital savvy ‘Gurus’ assist customers in setting up devices and ‘How-to’ problem solvers act as hosts for remote expert video conferencing. It has a full suite of self service transactional technology, self discovery touch tables, a seminar and business banking area, as well as a kids zone. The space acts as a portal, through which both new and existing customers are encouraged to explore and discover content.

The result is an authentic and lasting impression between AIB and its audience. An impression of innovation with human support. As a result of the success of the LAB, we were invited to create a modular branch design for the rest of the network. We designed a highly flexible and rapid approach to refurbishments, delivering human technology to their ever-growing community of digital adopters.
