Allied Irish Bank approached allen international and Accenture to create a totally unique concept store which would provide a learning and research environment focused on enabling customers to get the most from their current and next generation banking services.

Named ‘The Lab’ (Learn About Banking) the new store was designed to bring AIB’s leading-edge technologies together in a physical hub. It delivers an innovative experience through digital self-service capabilities, remote advisor accessibility, mobile device demonstration and a digital ‘avatar’ which navigates customers through the experience.

The Lab comprises:

The Quick Banking Zone – multi-functional ATMs and card kiosks, phone booth and a social media wall.

The Mobile Banking Zone – mobile banking table with interactive screens and devices, showcasing mobile banking services, and an internet banking booth.

The Product Zone – AIB’s partnerships with other technology brands via an iconic interactive digital product table and Emerging Technology area.

The Lounge & Learning Zone – a hospitable lounge to relax and browse with convenient access to financial experts in private booths.

The Business Banking Zone – A space for networking and customers’ own business meetings with i-Pads provided for browsing.

AIB’s The Lab wins at Efma Awards 2013

Allied Irish Bank has won the Physical Distribution category of the Global Distribution & Marketing Innovation Awards in Paris, France, for it’s recently-launched The Lab, designed by allen international.

The global programme, jointly launched by Efma – an association whose membership includes nearly one-third of the world’s large retail banks – and Accenture, identifies and awards banks for groundbreaking customer innovations. More than 150 banks from 54 countries around the world submitted nearly 330 case studies for consideration.

The Lab, located in Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin, is a technology-driven digital banking store that brings all of AIB’s leading edge technologies together in a physical hub to showcase, test and introduce customers to the best digital banking experience in Ireland.

In a world where there are millions of products and designs launched each year, the award was born out of the desire to underline these best in class designs and well designed products.
The award-winning products and designs are highlighted to the international public via the A’ Design Award Gala-Night and Exhibition held in Como, Italy where they are communicated to all relevant press across the world.
